The lamp holders for the numberplate are quite fragile but sometimes can be removed intact with a bit of care. Pull down the edge of the holder, where the slot is, just enough to get a very thin tool underneath. Your objective is to push back the retaining clip just enough to allow the whole frame to drop.

Once out of the car, replace the lamp and refit.

If the lamp holder breaks in the process, don't worry. They can be bought from smart for a smidge under £6 each complete with bulb! bulb. You will need the following part number:
